Summer has officially begun and San Diego County Library has launched its annual Summer Reading Club, running now through August 5. Kids, teens, and adults can sign up at www.sdcl.org/src to win prizes by reading this summer. The Lemon Grove Library, 8073 Broadway, is hosting a Summer Reading kickoff event on Wednesday, June 27 from 12 – 2 p.m. With free lunch for kids, an animal show, and a special donation presentation by the Friends of the Lemon Grove Library, there will be fun for all ages.
The free lunch is available from 12 – 12:30 p.m. for children under the age of 18. Following the free lunch, the Friends of the Lemon Grove Library will make a donation of $60,000 to purchase books, movies, and music CDs for the new Lemon Grove Library set to open early next year. The Friends of the Lemon Grove Library are currently looking for new members, and encourage the community to support the library by purchasing materials from the used bookstore within the branch. All proceeds go to support the library. At 1 p.m., a Wild Wonders Animal Show will provide all ages with an up-close look at some unique critters.
“We are both excited and grateful for the generous donation the Friends of the Lemon Grove Library are giving us for our new collection,” said Branch Manager Jackie Dzugan. “We can’t wait for our new library to open and invite everyone to come to our Summer Reading Kickoff to see what’s happening at the library during the summer and beyond.”
