40 Finalists Named in Hospital Charitable Service Awards

Jackson Healthcare announced 40 hospital programs as finalists in the 2012 Hospital Charitable Service Awards, a national program that seeks sustainable community service programs that reach out to America’s medically underserved. The program is now in its third year.

Finalists were chosen from a pool of 191 nominees by an independent advisory committee led by Charles R. Evans, FACHE. This year’s nominees represented 166 hospital systems and spanned 38 states plus the District of Columbia.

Each nominee had to demonstrate excellence in at least one of five criteria: community impact, innovation, collaboration, replicability and best practice. Finalists represent only those nominees that remain in consideration for the awards. Award winners-referred to as Programs of Excellence-will be announced at a banquet following the National Hospital Charitable Services Conference in Atlanta on February 13, 2013. These programs will share in a $100,000 award fund.

In a national conference call with nominees on October 3rd, Evans said, “Hospitals do great work in their communities and much of this work goes unrecognized. The Hospital Charitable Service Awards were established to recognize and share their stories.”

According to Evans, in addition to recognizing and rewarding sustainable hospital community programs, Jackson Healthcare continues to create education and social events for hospital charitable service professionals, where they can exchange ideas and help each other. These events include the national conference, webinars, free eBooks and a Facebook Group.

This year’s finalists also include several up-and-coming programs-those in operation less than two years. These programs will be considered for recognition in a new award category.
