2010-05-18 · By Editor
On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, James Leo Flaherty III allegedly followed and harassed a 17-year-old juvenile victim while she walked in the 300 block of 16th Street in Ramona. The juvenile victim reported Flaherty was staring at her inappropriately as he drove slowly past her. As Flaherty drove past, he reportedly told the victim, “I am not going to leave you alone.” The victim reported that sometime in the past year, Flaherty followed her and her sister and placed a pornographic magazine on the sidewalk in front of them while they walked in the same area.
Deputy Mark Sherman and Detective Mike McNeill of the Ramona Sheriff’s Sub-Station received this information, and immediately conducted a thorough investigation into this incident. Due to their quick response, Flaherty was immediately identified as the suspect in this case. Detective McNeill contacted the San Diego County District Attorney Office and requested a warrant be issued for the arrest of James Leo Flaherty III per Penal Code 647.6 Annoying/molesting a child under 18 years old.
On Friday, May 14, 2010, a Superior Court Judge issued a warrant for Flaherty’s arrest. Later that same day, Detective Mike McNeill arrested James Leo Flaherty III pursuant to the above-mentioned arrest warrant. Flaherty was arrested at about 1:00pm at 344 Main Street, Ramona. Flaherty is currently in the custody of the Sheriff at the County Jail. Flaherty is described as a forty-six-year-old white male, approximately 6’0″ tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. Flaherty drives a small black four-dour sedan.
It is possible that James Leo Flaherty III may have performed the same acts with other minor victims. The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who may have additional information or who may have been a victim of Flaherty’s actions to contact Detective McNeill at 760 789-9157

Are you seriously going to arrest a man for LOOKING at someone inappropriately? Could he have dropped the magazine? Did he harm anyone or have his hands on anyone. I think you should get your facts and make sure he is committed such a horrifying act before sending him to jail for something that didnt happen Detective.
That comment by his SISTER is without fact. Christine, do you remember that he had a wife his own age??? Who had a teenage daughter??? Ever wondering if he was ever inappropriate? Or wait, you wouldn’t know, because he had a whole other secret life that did not include his siblings. I have brothers too and the thought would make me ill. But I also have sisters and daughters and facts are facts, whether you know them or not.
