Mayor Reminds San Diegans of Summer Lawn-Watering Rules
Beginning June 1, San Diegans can water their lawns only after 6 p.m. and before 10 a.m. Until today, residents were allowed to water after 4 p.m. The summer lawn-watering rules are designed to prevent people from watering their lawns during the hottest hours of the day, when that water might evaporate.
“San Diegans have been doing a terrific job of following all the rules during the 11 months that we’ve been under mandatory water conservation,” Mayor Jerry Sanders said. “I have no doubt that our solid track record will continue this summer.”
The mayor also applauded San Diegans for cutting their water consumption by 9.2% in April compared to April 2009. Overall, water use in the city is down nearly 12% for the fiscal year. City government reduced its water use 26% in April.
Starting today, residents can run their sprinklers for a maximum of ten minutes per day, compared to seven minutes per day during the winter months. Residents can still water their lawns three days a week and their designated watering days remain the same.
