Olé! San Diego Public Library Airs Live World Cup Soccer Matches

The San Diego Public Library will screen live World Cup Soccer matches during the month-long tournament being held in South Africa from June 11 to July 11. Residents are invited to view World Cup games in a safe atmosphere and companionable fellowship during library open hours in the Central Library and the Logan and Serra Mesa library branches. All the matches will screen at 11:30 am (or 12:00 noon on Mondays and Wednesdays at Central).
The World Cup, also known as the Football World Cup, is the international quadrennial soccer tournament contested by the men’s national teams of 32 countries. It’s the biggest and most widely-viewed sporting event in the world, exceeding the Olympic Games, with a cumulative audience estimated at 30 billion. The current format involves 32 national teams that have successfully participated over the previous two years for the opportunity to continue and compete for the World Cup title at venues within a host nation over the period of a month.
