Fairgoers Can Watch World Cup Games at Surfside Race Place

world-cup-soccer watch at fair groundsFor one month, June 11 to July 11, South Africa will be the center of the soccer universe as that country hosts the World Cup. Thirty-two nations will face off to determine the world’s best soccer team.

The dates of the San Diego County Fair Presented by Albertsons|Sav-on are June 11 to July 5, so during the Fair, Surfside Race Place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds will be Soccer Central.

Surfside Race Place is Del Mar’s exclusive race book and sports bar. Admission to Surfside Race Place is free with admission to the Fair, so Fairgoers are invited to watch all of the thrilling World Cup action in Surfside’s Sports Lounge.

The USA’s first match is against England 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 12. World Cup games will be shown live Wednesday through Sunday at Surfside at 11:30 a.m. through June 25, the final day of group play. A schedule of the games that will be shown is on the Fair’s Web site, Attractions section, Surfside Race Place page. Once the elimination rounds begin, a new viewing schedule will be posted.

World Cup merchandise will be on sale in Surfside’s gift shop, and every Friday Surfside will offer $2 beers to Diamond Club members! Joining the Diamond Club is free, and the benefits include half-price admission to Surfside any time you come in the future and free parking. While enjoying the World Cup matches, you can bet on the ponies, too. Enjoy simulcast horse racing at Surfside Race Place from several tracks on the largest screens around!

The theme for the 2010 San Diego County Fair is “Taste the Fun,” which highlights local agriculture, producers, culinary arts and all things related to food! The Fair will run for 22 days opening Friday, June 11 and closing on Monday, July 5. (The Fair will be closed the first three Mondays, June 14, 21 and 28.)

The 22nd District Agricultural Association is a State of California agency that owns and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surfside Race Place, Horsepark Equestrian Center and the Del Mar Golf Center. The 22nd DAA produces five events each year: The San Diego County Fair, the Del Mar National Horse Show, Professional Bull Riding (PBR), The Scream Zone and Holiday of Lights. The Fairgrounds hosts more than 350 events annually, the largest of which is the live horse racing meet each summer, which is operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for the 22nd DAA and the State of California.
