Ines Irawati to Present a Piano Recital at Central Library

The sixth and final program in this year’s San Diego Public Library fall concert series will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010. The concert will feature pianist Ines Irawati. The recital will be held in the third floor auditorium of Central Library.
Ms. Irawati’s concert will include a performance of Schumann’s first published composition in honor of the bicentennial of his birth.

Johann Sebastian Bach: Italian Concerto, BWV 971
Robert Schumann: Abegg Variations, op. 1
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata in A-Flat Major, op. 110
Claude Debussy: Estampes
Known for her expressivity and virtuosity, pianist and composer Ines Irawati is in demand both as a solo recitalist and a collaborative pianist. Donald Rosenberg of the Cleveland Plain Dealer calls her “one of the most vital, imaginative, artistic young people on the scene.” Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, she made her official debut at age 12, playing the Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 3 and Chopin’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with the Indonesian Youth Symphony. As a composer, she has performed her own compositions all over Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Ms. Irawati holds a Bachelors of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Masters of Music from Yale University. As both a solo and collaborative pianist, she has participated in master classes with Emmanuel Ax, Murray Perahia, Martin Katz, Barbara Bonney, Dawn Upshaw, and other noted musicians.
Ms. Ines Irawati has won numerous competitions, including the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition and the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Competition. She was also invited to perform Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra at Severance Hall.
She has collaborated with Strings of the West, a resident quartet of the Midland-Odessa Symphony, Hyperion String Quartet, an ensemble-in-residence at San Diego State University, and other chamber ensembles. She regularly performs with noted orchestral musicians, including Jeff Thayer, Anthony McGill, Demarre McGill, and Jeremy Kurtz. She is the vocal coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, and currently lives in San Diego with her husband , Michael Krause.
The final concert of the fall series is Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the third floor auditorium of Central Library 820 E Street San Diego, 92101.
The concert is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the lot adjacent to the Library on Broadway and 8th Avenue, courtesy of Five Star Parking. In addition, parking meters are not enforced on Sundays, and other pay parking lots are available in the vicinity of the library.
