SEA LIFE Carlsbad and Lucky 7 Match Host First-Ever Speed Dating Event

Didn’t find your catch on Valentine’s Day? There are still plenty of fish in the sea and SEA LIFE Carlsbad and Lucky 7 Match are teaming up to help singles find their “sole” mate at the first-ever speed dating event at SEA LIFE Aquarium on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Single men and women are divided into three age groups: 25 to 35, 35 to 45 and 45 to 55. Each group will be stationed throughout SEA LIFE Aquarium where they will be surrounded by more than 200 species including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, seahorses and a giant pacific octopus. While enjoying the incredible ambiance, couples will be introduced and have seven minutes to get to know each other. When the time is up, a bell rings signaling the men to rotate to their next “date.”

While Valentine’s Day was mostly a “human” affair, speed dating participants can learn a lot about the amorous exploits of the marine world at SEA LIFE Aquarium. For example, the male seahorse woos his ladylove with tail-twining and some male sharks signal their interest with a love-bite to the neck.

“I’m best known for being … smart like an octopus? Graceful like a ray? Athletic like a shark? Cute like a seahorse?” Singles meeting for the first time will be able to use questions like these to break the ice at the first-ever speed dating event at SEA LIFE Aquarium. For those wanting to actually date an aquarist … our own SEA LIFE Aquarium Education Specialist Megan Malaska is up to the challenge and will be participating in the fun!

This is not only a great opportunity for singles wanting to find romance, but who want to explore SEA LIFE Aquarium after normal hours. SEA LIFE Carlsbad features more than 50 sharks including zebra sharks, black tips, white tips, grey reef sharks, white spotted bamboo sharks and Port Jackson sharks. This spring, SEA LIFE becomes the only Aquarium in Southern California to feature scalloped hammerhead sharks.

SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium is located at One LEGOLAND Drive, next door to LEGOLAND® California, just off Interstate 5, in the seaside village of Carlsbad, 30 minutes north of San Diego and one hour south of Anaheim.
