Adventure Cuts: A Salon Experience For All Ages

EverythingSanDiego recently spoke with Paris Heffner Bissat & Bridget Heffner Brielmaier, Owners of Adventure Cuts, via email.

They talked about inspirations, challenges and what’s it’s like having a business in Carlsbad.

How long have you been in business?:

November 2008

Describe your business:

Adventure Cuts offers a unique approach for children of all ages, and their parents, to experience a fun hair and nail salon with professional finesse. The salon boasts an exciting atmosphere with video games, flat screen TVs, and mural-filled walls. Parents can enjoy getting their nails done while their children are amused by the abundance of toys; kids sit captivated by the movie on TV while getting haircuts. The salon offers themed parties for 6-20 children.

Why did you start Adventure Cuts?

Paris: “Getting my son’s haircut hasn’t always been easy. He would cry whenever someone tried to cut his hair. We went from salon to salon hoping for a good experience. Finally, we went to a salon and, when my son was crying, his stylist gave him a hand held game which distracted him long enough to get a haircut.

“After that, we decided to create a fun business where kids would enjoy having their hair cut.”

What makes Adventure Cuts stand out?

We not only offer great service, but our booths are designed so that kids can have fun either by sitting in a chair shaped like a plane or by playing video games. In addition, we are a great party place and offer fun themes like Diva and Rock Star Parties, Fairy Fantasy Parties, Manicure/Pedicure Spa Parties, Pirate Parties and even Sci-Fi shindigs.

What is the biggest success Adventure Cuts has had?

Flourishing in numbers each month during poor economical times.

What is your favorite part of running your business?

Meeting new clients and seeing how much they love Adventure Cuts. Hearing the praise makes it all so gratifying.

What are the biggest challenges you face?

Ensuring we make financial responsibilities each month.

What unique talents do you bring to Adventure Cuts?

Bridget: “Personality, personality, personality…I have many years of experience working with the public in different type business’s. Having a flair for fashion and what looks good, and a background in interior design is also very helpful.”

How is Adventure Cuts involved with the community?

Bridget: “I am involved with the community through my children. Sports, fund raisers, and now Adventure Cuts, we support and donate to many organizations and charities. Our most recent donation was a walk-a-thon for breast cancer hosted by the YMCA.”

Do you have any future plans for Adventure Cuts?

We want to share Adventure Cuts with the world by franchising out. Paris and I want them to enjoy it as much as we do.

What is the best advice that you received and who did it come from?

My mother always gives the best advice. She once told me if you have talents and special gifts, share them with others. Most importantly, always follow through with your dreams.
