San Diego Public Library Hosts a Preview Screening of the ITVS Documentary The Calling
2010-12-06 · By Editor
The San Diego Public Library will host a Community Cinema screening of The Calling by filmmaker Danny Alpert. The film will screen on Monday, December 20, 2010 in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library.
The Calling follows seven Muslims, Catholics, Evangelical Christians, and Jews on a dramatic journey — training to become professional clergy. From their first days of training and into their early practice as religious professionals, The Calling follows its subjects within and beyond the walls of their schools, confronting the sacrifices they’ve made to pursue this path. We see them debate theology and philosophy, learn to deliver sermons, perform their first weddings and funerals, and counsel people in crisis. At the crossroads of their lives, these young people also struggle with dating, partners, family, and other challenges of “coming of age.”
The Calling will screen Monday, December 20, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library 820 E Street San Diego, 92101. This event is free and open to the public.
Community Cinema is affiliated with the ITVS media organization (Independent Television Service). ITVS Community Cinema is a monthly screening series that pairs independently produced documentary films with leading organizations working to resolve related social issues in communities across the country. All films featured will broadcast nationally on the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens.
