Occupational Safety & Health Investigate Accidental Death

crime-tape On December 14th, 2010 at about 3:20 pm, deputies from the Fallbrook Substation responded to assist the fire department with an accident involving a commercial wood chipper at 9329 Moon Ridge Road in Rainbow. Just prior to deputies arriving on scene, the fire department confirmed the victim was deceased.

Initial investigation by deputies indicated that the victim, Rainbow resident Martimiano Morales Carreon (49), and his adult son, were working next to an avocado grove clearing trees. Carreon used his foot to push a large pile of branches through the chipper. Carreon’s foot became entangled in the pile of brush and was pulled into the chipper. Carreon’s son was able to stop the chipper machine and pull Carreon out. Carreon sustained major trauma to his lower extremities and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1540 hours by paramedics.

The Department of Industrial Relations Division of Occupational Safety & Health and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office are handling the investigation.
