Record Numbers Attend Healing Event at Chopra Center

Chopra Center co-founder Dr. David Simon has touched the lives of thousands throughout the world.
This Jan. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a special healing event will be held at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, CA. The Chopra Center staff and volunteers have organized this event in honor of David Simon, M.D., a renowned physician, author, and long-time teacher who was diagnosed with brain cancer last June and is currently undergoing treatment. Dr. Simon will be attending the event with his family.
“In his work as a doctor, healer, and teacher, David Simon has touched the lives of thousands of people throughout the world for more than 30 years,” said the Chopra Center’s event coordinator, Amanda Ringnalda.
“In the past few months since his diagnosis, so many individuals have reached out to David through emails, blog posts and phone calls, offering their prayers of healing and gratitude and blessings. Our intention for this event is to create a way for the extended community to come together with the collective intention for healing—both for David and all those coping with difficult health situations,” Amanda said.
“The support from people in the San Diego community and throughout the world has been incredible, and we have expanded the original location of the ceremony to accommodate more than 1,400 participants, some of whom will watch from La Costa’s terrace lawn via live simulcast,” said volunteer Christina Braggiotti.
This January 22, the event will open with a traditional Tibetan prayer ritual conducted by the monks from the Gaden Shartse Thubten Dhargye Ling Dharma Center in Long Beach, CA.
After the ceremony, there will be a group meditation led by the Chopra Center’s lead educator David Greenspan (davidji), a heart-opening sitar performance, and an interactive exhibit on the healing power of the senses. Participants will also enjoy a preview of the documentary film that is being created about David Simon’s life.
The event has already filled to its maximum capacity, but people may still participate in spirit by meditating at home during the same time that the group meditation is taking place in Carlsbad—from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. (PST). Donations are also still being accepted at http://www.chopra.com/healingceremony.
