Children’s Performing Arts Company Unveils New Look

Spotlight Ovations Performing Arts is under the sole proprietorship of one of its founders, Sharla Mandere. Mandere has big ideas for the company and has, amongst other things, begun by introducing new classes and a new logo!

As the sole proprietor of Spotlight Ovations Performing Arts (SOPA), Sharla Mandere has implemented some changes to the company to better reach a more vast audience. With the implementation of a new website and a new logo as well as a YouTube channel, SOPA will be more recognizable and easily accessible in the community. There has also been the addition of a family-centered class called ‘Flappin’ Family Fun”. All classes ranging from dance, acting and circus will be showcased at our 2nd annual recital on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Pacific Beach Women’s Club.

The “Flappin Family Fun” class meets on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 and is open to anyone ages 7 to adult – no previous tap dance experience necessary! It is a wonderful way for the whole family to learn, grow creatively, challenge themselves and bond as a family. All the basics of tap dancing are taught and students are sure to get their heart pumping as they learn new skills and new things about themselves in this unique class. “I’m very excited about the new “Flappin’ Family Fun” class as I have dreamed of a way to get the whole family involved, in the performing arts, together. This class is a wonderful beginning of what I hope will blossom into many more family centered classes in the future” says Sharla Mandere, owner and CEO of SOPA.

This year will mark the second annual recital for Spotlight Ovations Performing Arts and will feature kids and adults from ages 3 on. Performances will include ballet, tap, circus and acting – including a special appearance by “Theatre of Peace”, a young adult touring group that performs self-written inspirational assemblies for elementary schools across San Diego during the school year and is directed by Sharla Mandere of Spotlight Ovations Performing Arts. Tickets are only $10! Mandere said, “Last year’s recital was such a success! We had 48 kids participating in our very first recital! I am extremely excited to see how it grows this year. I hope to reach a wider audience of community members to come out and support these very talented kids on the stage this summer.”
